2014 a chance to prove myself - Wolff
Susie Wolff sees her outings for Williams this year as her chance to prove herself as a Formula One racing driver.
Wolff got her first taste of the Williams FW36 on Wednesday at Barcelona and set the fifth fastest time, although test days are rarely a true indicator of pace. She said the priority had been to prepare herself for her first Friday practice session at the British Grand Prix in July.
However, she was not willing to speculate on whether this year's track time would result in a race drive in 2015: "It's definitely too early to say. I'm a very proud part of this team and I have a great opportunity this year and I have to prove myself. I have to keep doing a good job, today was good, but the free practice sessions are my next focus.
"Of course, it's the dream of every driver to be on the starting grid, but it's a tough sport, it's tough to get on that grid and there are many drivers trying. I'm just one of those drivers trying."
Wolff will become the first woman to take part in a grand prix weekend for 22 years at Silverstone, but said she would block out the hype surrounding her.
"I don't really worry too much what people expect, because I realise there are some that expect me to be way off and some that expect that I can do a good job like the guys in my team. For me it was just about doing a good job for the team today, I didn't even look at the timesheets once today as I had my own personal targets set from the team.
"They had their expectations of what I should achieve on each tyre set, so that was really my goal. So, great, of course it's nice not to be at the end, but as we know this is Formula One and it's more about getting the best performance out of me than comparing myself to the others just yet."
Wolff had a spin early in the session and admitted it was down to the extra torque from this year's V6 turbo power unit compared to last year's V8s.
"That was the torque! It was only my second lap and I was shifting from third to fourth and the rear right was on the kerb, I shifted up and lost the rear. Pretty unspectacular, but a tough lesson learned."
