'Selective' approach key for Williams - Bottas

Valtteri Bottas believes Williams has benefited from a change of approach in 2014 after reducing the amount of upgrades it brings to each race.

Williams took a while to live up to its pre-season billing as podium contenders but has continued to make steps forward, especially at the last four races at power-hungry circuits. By contrast the team scored just five points in 2013 and Bottas thinks that frustrating campaign was a consequence of trying to change too much on the car every weekend.

"I think the difference is last year we kept bringing much more parts than this season," Bottas said. "The difference is this season the updates we've brought have always worked. The correlation between the wind-tunnel and the track has been much better, there's been some changes in how the factory works with the wind-tunnel and it's really working.

"We've also been more selective with all the parts and maybe the team has looked at the bigger picture of the car and which areas to focus on, and really focus on something rather than looking at bits there and there and just keep bringing them. Hopefully we will prove that again this weekend."

Bottas knows Budapest - a circuit where downforce is key - will not favour Williams' strengths but is confident the package being brought to Hungary will have a long-term impact on the season.

"There's quite a few new bits in the car this weekend, mainly related to the aero. We have some changes to the suspension due to the changes last weekend so we tried to optimise the car to work a bit better with this current suspension. But the main thing is just aero bits all around the car. It's a good amount of bits waiting to come to this track because you need a lot of downforce. If they work they will be helpful at a lot of other places, maybe not Monza, but most of the tracks after Hungary."
