Porter misses out on medal

A poor clearance at the penultimate hurdle squandered Tiffany Porter's hopes of a medal at the World Athletics Championships in South Korea.
Porter, who switched allegiances to Great Britain last year having previously competed for the United States, looked to be in good form heading into the final, having broken her own British record in the semi-finals.
Porter's semi-final offering of 12.56 seconds saw her qualify second fastest for the final behind Australian Sally Pearson, who ran the fastest time of the year in winning her semi-final.
Pearson went on to set a championship record as she claimed gold in a time of 12.28 seconds, with Danielle Carruthers pipping compatriot Dawn Harper to silver in a photo finish.
Porter looked to be on course for a medal, but the European indoor 60m hurdles champion clipped the ninth barrier, which disrupted her stride pattern for the final hurdle and she stumbled over the line in fourth.
"This is just a learning experience, you've got to take the good with the bad," Porter said. "I was running really fast, faster than I ever have before and then I struck the hurdle.
"You can't make a mistake like that and expect to win a medal at a major championship. I'm in the form of my life and I need to grow and learn from this and put it right next year in London."
Meanwhile, the British quartet of Perri Shakes-Drayton, Nicola Sanders, Christine Ohuruogu and Lee McConnell missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the 4x400m relay as USA won their third title in a row. Jamaica finished second while Russia claimed bronze.
