Bolt confident 100m record can be lowered

Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt believes he is capable of breaking both his 100m and 200m world records over the next few years.

The Jamaican, who warmed up for next month's World Championships in Moscow with a winning run of 9.85s in the 100m at the recent London Anniversary Games, is confident he could become the first man ever to run 200m in under 19 seconds - while his 100m record of 9.58s can also be lowered.

"Yes, of course," Bolt said, when asked about beating his 100m record. "It would require a technically almost perfect race, and for the weather conditions to be good but I'm focused on getting myself in a physical condition where I'm capable of doing it."

He added: "The 200m world record [19.19s] would be the one I'd really love to break again, to see if it's maybe even possible to get it under 19 seconds. That would be something special."

The Jamaican heads to Russia hoping to win back his 100m world title - one he was forced to relinquish to training partner Yohan Blake, after false-starting in dramatic circumstances in Daegu two years ago.

"I don't think about it any more," the 26-year-old added. "At the time it was very disappointing, because I was in great shape and knew that if I had started and run well I would have got a gold medal. But that's behind me now. I learned from it and moved on.

"Right now, I'm only focusing on Moscow and preparing well for that."
