Jamaica's Blake appeals six-year doping ban

Jamaican sprinter Dominique Blake has appealed to sport's highest court to challenge a six-year ban for her second doping offence.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it has registered Blake's request "to have her suspension reduced." CAS says no date has been set for the hearing, although a verdict should be issued within four months.

Blake tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a banned stimulant, in June 2012 at the Jamaican Olympic trials. She had finished sixth in the 400 metres.

The 26-year-old Blake's ban by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission runs through July 2018. She previously served a nine-month ban after testing positive for ephedrine in 2006 at the United States national championships.

On Monday, World Anti-Doping Agency officials are set to begin an inquest into JADCO over allegations they failed to properly test their athletes in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

WADA president John Fahey insists Jamaica face a possible ban from Rio 2016 if they do not bring their drug-testing programme up to international standards.
