Queensland Reds captain James Horwill has become the latest player to re-sign with the Australian Rugby Union, committing to his franchise and the Wallabies until the end of 2013 on Monday.

Second-rower Horwill, 26, is now free to set about reestablishing himself as a test prospect after being derailed by injury in 2010.

Horwill was the only player to start every match for Australia in 2009, the year he took over as captain at the Reds, who he has led to the top of the Super Rugby standings this season.

After two weeks of Super Rugby last year, however, the lock sustained a knee injury that sidelined him for the rest of 2010. Horwill made his test debut against Fiji in 2007 and ended the 2009 international season with 24 test appearances to his name.

Horwill's re-signing for the ARU follows on from the signatures last week of fellow second-rower Nathan Sharpe, No. 8 Ben McCalman and fullback Kurtley Beale. The addition of the high profile quartet means that fourteen previously off-contract Wallabies have now re-signed this year.
