Hart to trump Rooney for England captaincy at 5/1
Wayne Rooney is the odds-on favourite to replace Steven Gerrard as England captain, but goalkeeper Joe Hart can easily become the next permanent skipper.
Gerrard retired from international duty on Monday, and immediately Rooney was installed as the favourite at 1/3 to succeed the midfielder as captain, but with Rooney's place in the England team being questioned before and during the World Cup, manager Roy Hodgson may decide to overlook the striker for the role.
Which is where Hart steps in. The 27-year-old has 43 caps and is one of the regular starters for his nation, and William Hill are offering odds of 5/1 that Hart takes over the armband from Gerrard.
