Manchester City travel to the Nou Camp on Wednesday knowing they were inches away from needing to win 3-0 in one of the hardest arenas to visit in Europe.

As it was, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi missed a penalty and then sent the rebound wide with the goal gaping, so Manuel Pellegrini could afford to breathe a sigh of relief and plan an assault on Barcelona safe in the knowledge that a 2-0 win would be enough for them to progress into the Champions League quarter-finals.

City were defeated by Barca at this stage of last season, when goals from Messi and Dani Alves ensured a 4-1 aggregate win, but may be spurred into action by their disappointing defeat to Burnley at the weekend.
