As England prepare for their latest Euro 2016 qualifier against San Marino at Wembley on Thursday, memories of one of the gloomiest chapters in their footballing history will no doubt be brought to mind.

In 1993, England needed to beat minnows San Marino by seven clear goals to reach the following summer's World Cup finals in the USA.

In what proved to be Graham Taylor's last outing as England manager, England fell behind straight from kick-off - after just 8.3 seconds in fact. They went on to win 7-1 but failed to qualify for the World Cup.
