Sergio Martinez is willing to entertain the idea of a match-up against Carl Froch at some point next year, according to Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella.

WBC super-middleweight champion Froch faces a unification showdown with WBA king Andre Ward in October, after which he is hoping for a homecoming bout at Nottingham Forest's City Ground stadium during 2012.

Mikkel Kessler, who inflicted the only defeat of Froch's pro career, has been mooted the most likely candidate, while British and Commonwealth champion George Groves, James DeGale and even Joe Calzaghe have been mentioned.

Middleweight king Martinez's name has not been discussed but, if he continues to further his reputation as one of the planet's top-five fighters, there is sure to be a clamour for the bout.

"If Carl Froch were to pull off what a lot of people are going to think is an upset and beat Ward, that might be one guy down the line that could match up with Sergio, because Carl's not a big 168-pounder," DiBella told boxingscene.com.

Martinez (47-2-2) defends his WBC middleweight crown against Britain's Darren Barker in Las Vegas on October 1.
