Frankie Gavin will have one eye on the British title when he takes on Frank Haroche Horta on Saturday.

The former world amateur champion has been nominated by the British Boxing Board of Control to fight Junior Witter in a title eliminator for the British welterweight title, but first he must navigate his way past the French champion.

Horta has never been stopped, but Gavin, who was unconvincing in his recent win against Curtis Woodhouse, is hoping to reap the benefits of his recent move to London.

Gavin dumped coach Anthony Farnell to link up with father-and-son duo Jimmy and Mark Tibbs - Jimmy having trained former world champions Nigel Benn, Frank Bruno and Barry McGuigan.

"The training has been a lot different and very enjoyable," Gavin said. "We have been concentrating on my diet so that weight is not a problem and also working on my body strength.

"Obviously I am not sure what I will be going after I have sorted out Horta. It would be nice to stop him as that has not been done before but it is good to be recognised by the Boxing Board of Control as a contender for the British title. That's my next immediate target - the Lonsdale Belt."
