Pacquiao a lucky man - Khan

Amir Khan has added fuel to the growing clamour for a fourth installment of Manny Pacquiao's rivalry with Juan Manuel Marquez by claiming the Mexican won by "one or two rounds".

Pacquiao defended his WBO welterweight title with a majority decision against Marquez in Las Vegas on Saturday, although many at ringside felt the wrong man's arm was raised at the fight's conclusion.

The fallout from Saturday's controversial contest continues to rage, with Marquez contemplating retirement and Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach admitting Marquez "had Manny's number".

And now Pacquiao's stablemate Khan, the reigning WBA and IBF light-welterweight world champion, has waded in with his own take on events by joining those who doubt the majority decision in Pacquiao's favour was the right outcome.

"It was a close fight," Khan said. "You could see Marquez had done his homework and knew what he needed to do. When they went into the last round, I thought Marquez was going to win and Manny's trainer Freddie Roach thought the same.

"I thought Marquez won it by one or two rounds. But I'm pleased for Manny because he is a stablemate and a good friend."

A mega-fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr has long been mooted, with the latter's advisor Leonard Ellerbe recently stating that May 5 was being earmarked for the showdown. However, promoter Oscar de la Hoya, who has lost to both men, feels the Filipino would struggle to cope with the American's formidable defence and accurate counter-punching - particularly having seen Mayweather dominate Marquez for 12 rounds two years ago.

"I think this shows how superior Mayweather is. Pacquiao cannot compete with a counter-puncher like Marquez. Juan has the patience to wait and capitalise on mistakes," he told boxingscene.com.
