Cleverly eyes Hopkins showdown in Cardiff

Nathan Cleverly is in talks with Bernard Hopkins over a light-heavyweight unification showdown in Wales.

Following recent defeats to Amir Khan and Carl Froch, Cleverly is Britain's only reigning world champion, and is set to defend his WBO title on February against an opponent yet to be confirmed.

But Cleverly, who is unbeaten in 23 professional fights, is already looking towards a unification clash with WBC champion Hopkins.

Hopkins, 46, has been ordered to fight Chad Dawson following a controversial no-contest in October. But Cleverly's father Vince confirmed his son was in talks to secure a world title defence in front of his home fans at the Millennium Stadium.

"Hopkins is coming around to the idea," he said. "It would sell out the Millennium Stadium. This year was brilliant and all went to plan. Let's hope 2012 can be even better. Barring injuries Nathan will unify the division."
