Pacquiao rules out Roach split

Manny Pacquiao has told ESPN he will not follow Amir Khan's lead and sever ties with trainer Freddie Roach.

Khan confirmed last week that he had ended his association with Roach after defeats in his most recent two bouts, against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia.

The second of those reverses was particularly damaging to Khan's reputation, as Garcia blew him away during July via fourth-round stoppage to take the WBA light-welterweight crown.

There were parallels with the Brit's first-round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott in 2008, after which Roach was drafted in to repair his career.

Khan has said in recent months that he feels his defence needs tightening, hence the move away from Roach. But Pacquiao still feels the American is the best trainer in the business.

"Yes I am happy working with Freddie - he is a good guy and a nice trainer," he told ESPN. "I am successful working with him."

Asked for this thoughts on Khan's split from Roach, Pacquiao said: "I have no comment to make on that."
