Flintoff set to be granted boxing licence

Andrew Flintoff is set to be given the green light to commence his boxing career, with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) poised to grant him a licence.

Former England cricketer Flintoff, 34, will make his debut at heavyweight on November 30 against an unnamed opponent, who ESPN understands will not be a novice.

Flintoff has shed more than two stones in the last ten weeks of training with Shane McGuigan and his father Barry, a former world champion.

Barry McGuigan has confirmed that Flintoff intends to compete in a number of professional fights, rather than just a couple of exhibition outings.

The BBBoC has put Flintoff through a strenuous regime of tests designed to gauge his fitness level, and is waiting on the final results of a medical.

Reports suggest Flintoff is currently walking around at 16 stones, around half a stone away from the weight he is aiming to reach.

When announcing his career switch in September, Flintoff said: "This is an amazing opportunity to try a sport that I love, to be tutored by a man I respect and admire and, at the age of 34, the chance to be a professional sportsman again.

"It's a huge challenge - probably the biggest I have ever undertaken, especially in such a short time frame. I have a long road ahead and a lot of work in front of me. The stakes are high."
