Chisora to re-apply for British boxing licence

Dereck Chisora could be on course for a British heavyweight showdown with David Price after it emerged he is re-applying for his domestic boxing licence.

Chisora had his British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) licence revoked in March last year after brawling with David Haye at a press conference in Hamburg.

Haye and Chisora settled their differences in the ring in a bout licensed by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation last summer, but Chisora will now make his case to the BBBoC.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Chisora intends to make his return on the undercard of George Groves' super-middleweight clash with Mohamed Ali Ndiaye.

When Chisora was stripped of his licence in March, BBBoC general secretary Robert Smith said: "There has been no set period when he can re-apply for his licence.

"He no longer is a licence-holder with the British boxing board. Any person is allowed to re-apply at some point. Obviously the board will consider any application. What happens in the future, I do not know. But what we're obviously talking about is a few years."

Chisora is looking to restore his tattered reputation after losing his last three fights - against Vitali Klitschko, Haye and Robert Helenius.

Should he be granted a licence, Chisora could target British and Commonwealth champion David Price, who has expressed his interest in a fight. Price's next fight comes against Tony Thompson in Liverpool on February 23.
