Fury: Thompson is a "gutless t**t"

Tyson Fury has called Tony Thompson a "gutless twat" and a "granddad" after the 41-year-old accused the Briton of ducking a fight with him.

Thompson is the February opponent of David Price but he claims Fury's camp originally expressed an interest in fighting him.

Yet when the Washington southpaw said he would be keen to get in the ring with the 24-year-old Fury - according to Thompson - he backed down.

But Fury, 20-0 in his professional career, hit back on Twitter saying that he did not want to fight Thompson because he was not good enough to tempt him, before hurling insults in his direction.

"He's shit," Fury wrote. "[Mick] Hennessy offered him to us and we don't want grandads ESP with no chin tell the gutless twat that!!"

Fury's words were directed at the Twitter account of livefight.com after they posted Thompson's comments on their website. The American's original words were more measured than Fury's but his meaning was no less clear.

"Tyson Fury's people came on to discuss a fight and I never heard another word after I said I was up for it and they went for Kevin Johnson instead," Thompson said.

"Fair play to David's [Price] people for taking this challenge because there are other guys who wouldn't dare step in with me having had just 15 pro fights. I have a lot to gain by beating David because he is a top ten fighter. I am the guy supposedly on the way out looking to stay in contention."

Fury's outburst follows hot on the heels of another Twitter spat between himself and two prominent mixed martial artists, Michael Bisping and Cain Velasquez.

Fury called Bisping a "first class prick" and challenged Velasquez, who is a UFC heavyweight champion, to a fight "in a cage or a ring" saying it could be billed as "man vs midget."
