Anfield weigh-in 'massive honour' for Price

Liverpudlian David Price will weigh-in for his next fight against American Tony Thompson at the home of Liverpool FC - the football club he has supported since he was a boy.

The British heavyweight described the opportunity to perform the fight formalities on February 22 at Anfield, one day before the fight at the Echo Arena, as a "massive honour", adding that it could only be topped by fighting there.

Yet the prospect of Price competing at the 45,276 capacity stadium has received short shrift from British rival Tyson Fury's camp. The 29-year-old is tipped for a showdown with Fury at some stage but Price admits that if they fought at the moment, whoever lost would see their career cut to ribbons.

For now, the undefeated Price (15-0) can only content himself with a weigh-in but that is still something which fills him with enormous pride.

"It's a great place to have the weigh-in - it's close to my heart - and I'm happy Liverpool have given us the chance to do this again," Price said. "It's brilliant for me - to have any links to the club is a massive honour. It's a good sign - my profile's growing all the time and it's my lifelong dream to fight at Anfield one day.

"A lot of people realise this is a fight between two of the top 10 heavyweights in the world and it's not often you see that type of fight happen. I hope the fans come along. It's going to be a massive night and a big step towards the top for me in my career."

Price also weighed-in at Anfield before his fight with Audley Harrison last year - a contest he ended in 82 seconds - and promoter Frank Maloney believes his charge has taken another step towards staging a fight at the famous football ground.

"It's great for David Price to have the weigh-in at the club he loves so much - it really adds something special to the fight," Maloney said.

"It inspires me as a promoter that Liverpool Football Club are acknowledging his achievements - this is another stepping stone towards having a big fight there."
