Devon Alexander has cooled nearly two weeks of speculation about who he will fight next by saying that it is still his intention to take on Kell Brook.

Alexander postponed the February 23 date between the pair when he picked up a bicep injury in training.

Speculation then started that he might swerve the Sheffield fighter in order to fight the welterweight division's poster boy Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 4.

Mayweather sparked the rumours by claiming Alexander as his next opponent on Twitter, just a day after Alexander had postponed his Brook bout.

But the Missouri fighter, whose IBF title would be on the line against Brook, has rubbished those reports and apologised for having to cancel the February date.

"Everybody went crazy over the tweet," he told IFilmLondon. "My obligation is to fight Kell Brook and that's what I'm going to do. We'll be back in the gym next week, my arm is feeling much better. I needed to push it back a few weeks as I want to be 100%.

"I know they were gutted - I didn't mean to gut anybody. I never cancelled a fight in my 25 career fights, so for me to cancel it had to be something serious.

"He [Brook] is an okay fighter. He has the potential to be a good fighter but now is my time, I have my mojo going and it's just the wrong time for him."

A new date for the fight has not yet been announced.
