Calzaghe: 'Delusional' Froch not even world No. 1

Former two-weight world champion Joe Calzaghe has slammed unified titlist Carl Froch over recent comments the Nottingham fighter made saying that only Lennox Lewis rivalled him as Great Britain's number one boxer.

Welshman Calzaghe, who retired undefeated after 46 professional fights, dismissed the comments as a "joke" and believes the 'Cobra' would be no match for him.

"It's an absolute joke of a comment," Calzaghe said. "The guy is delusional if he believes that. Carl is not even the best super-middleweight in the world today. He's a good fighter, but I was better."

Froch recently unified the super-middleweight division after defeating old rival Mikkel Kessler in their highly anticipated rematch at London's O2 Arena on Saturday, and is now setting his sights on avenging the only other loss on his record against undefeated American Andre Ward.

However Calzaghe, who also defeated Kessler by unanimous decision in 2007, believes Froch's comments are disrespectful to other British boxing legends.

"It's pathetic to try to write your own legacy," Calzaghe added. "It's not up to me to judge where I am, or for Carl to judge where he is. It's for others to decide.

"I'd like to just let it go, but that to me is an attack on myself and several other great British boxers."

Since avenging his 2010 loss to Kessler, Froch has ruffled a few feathers in the boxing world; most notably WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly, whose father recently criticised 35-year-old Froch's attitude towards the Welshman.
