Scott Quigg joins Matchroom stable

Scott Quigg, one of Great Britain's outstanding young talents, signed with Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn on Wednesday and was quickly added to his June 29 card in Bolton.

Quigg, who holds an interim junior featherweight title, will fight a 10-round non-title bout against an opponent to be determined on the card, which is headlined by the lightweight showdown between Gavin Rees and Anthony Crolla.

Bury-born Quigg has been out of action since November, when he scored an impressive sixth-round knockout of Rendall Munroe to claim the vacant belt in a rematch.

Quigg and Munroe first met last June for the vacant title, but the bout ended in a third-round technical draw after Munroe was badly cut over his right eye by an accidental head butt and unable to continue.

By signing the 24-year-old Quigg (25-0-1, 18 KOs), who had been promoted by former junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, Hearn essentially is replacing Carl Frampton in his stable after he and the European junior featherweight champion recently parted ways.

"I'm delighted to have signed a deal with Matchroom Sport, and it's great to have a fight so soon," Quigg said. "I've been in training for a long time and (it's) a new start with a new promoter.

"I'm always in the gym, I love training. But a fighter always wants to be in the ring fighting. That's where you learn and you also make your money to pay your bills. I've got the same hunger as always, and I just want to get active again.

"I can't wait to get back in there. That's where I'm at home and I've missed it. We're getting the ball rolling in Bolton. I've had one fight in a year, so it's about getting the momentum going and looking to make waves in the division again.

"No one sees how hard I train, no one sees the effort and dedication that I put in to get to the top. I came into boxing wanting to be a world champion. I don't want to settle at British or European [level]. I've come in to be the best. You might need a bit of luck here and there, but I think I have the ability and I know I have the desire and dedication to make it happen."

Quigg is just the latest Matchroom signing in recent months, during which Hearn also added lightweight titlist Ricky Burns, super-middleweight contender George Groves and former heavyweight titlist David Haye to the Matchroom Sport roster.

"I'm delighted to welcome Scott Quigg to the team," Hearn said. "He is on the cusp of challenging for a world title."
