Mayweather Jr: Pacquiao's a has-been

Undefeated welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr has given his strongest indication yet that he will not be stepping into the ring with former pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, saying the Filipino's career is over.

A potential super-bout between 'Money' and 'Pac Man' has long been mooted, but a number of stumbling blocks have seen negotiations fall to nothing with Mayweather recently quipping that Pacquiao "had his chance".

The American, unbeaten in 44 professional bouts, was in San Antonio to promote his September 14 clash with WBA and WBC light-middlweight champion Saul 'Canero' Alvarez - also undefeated - when a fan interrupted and called for the 36-year-old to fight Pacquiao.

However, Mayweather Jr acknowledged the fan's request before belittling his long-time rival, calling Pacquiao's previous conqueror Juan Manuel Marquez a "legend".

"Pacquiao's a has-been, his career is over," Mayweather Jr said. "[Juan] Manuel Marquez is a legend. I commend him."

While Mayweather Jr is looking to end 22-year-old Mexican Alvarez's winning streak and further establish domination across the divisions, Pacquiao will be aiming to stop the rot of two successive defeats when he returns to the ring against Brandon Rios in Macau on November 24.

The 34-year-old lost to Timothy Bradley in June 2012, before being knocked out by Marquez the following December.
