Peter Fury: Vitali always Haye's plan

Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer has accused David Haye of ducking out of September 28's scheduled heavyweight bout because he is lining up a clash with Vitali Klitschko.

Earlier this month, Klitschko, the WBC heavyweight champion, suggested he would like to end his career against Haye, who lost a unanimous points decision to Vitali's brother Vladimir Klitschko for his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles in Hamburg in July, 2011.

Peter Fury suggested the sparring partners Haye brought in for his camp hinted he might have been training with Vitali in mind. Haye drafted in unbeaten American Deontay Wilder and Pole Mariusz Wach - who lost on points to Wladimir Klitschko last year - as well as Sheffield's Richard Towers and Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko.

With the fight now tentatively scheduled to take place on February 8, Peter Fury insists it is still 50/50 whether it will actually go ahead.

"Could David Haye have been planning for Vitali Klitschko all along? You've only got to look at how he's always wanted Vitali, who said he wants his last fight to be with David," said Peter Fury.

"We've heard David has already got sparring partners in similar to Vitali. If there is a possible fight with Vitali, why would David take Tyson? It makes no sense. Vitali would be for a title, more money. He's in a no-lose situation, whereas if he loses to Tyson it wouldn't look good on his CV.

"I'm a realist, I'm not investigating [the cut] too deeply because the fight was called off. It's back on, but it's like I've always said - it's 50/50 whether this fight will ever take place in my opinion, because we're hearing so much about the Klitschkos.

"There's a lot of politics involved. We have to wait with baited breath. We're amending the contract to put a clause in to make sure this fight happens. We've left it with the legal teams, if they don't get signed then we know what the situation is, which we'd rather know than find out later.

"We're putting the pressure on their camp to agree to make sure this fight happens. We're going to put a deadline of the next 14 working days. If it doesn't happen, we're moving on. Already, we've lost Tyson's ranking and mandatory position.

"The clauses are unless there is a proper legitimate injury there are no step-aside bonuses just because he wants to fight another opponent. These are the types of clauses that are going in. A legitimate injury, no one can do anything, you can be struck by lightning. The thing is, if there is a pull-out and then he signs up to fight anyone else, these are the things we need to iron out."

Peter Fury also suggested his nephew could take on another fight before the rescheduled Haye clash.

He said: "We've had quality sparring partners. They cost over £50,000. There are lots of costs in there, a lot of people out of pocket, but you can't cry over spilt milk, just move on. My main issue isn't the finances, but to get Tyson where he needs to be rather than being used as a stepping stone.

"Ideally for me, a busy fighter is a good fighter. I don't like inactivity. Tyson is not a happy man - he wants to fight as soon as possible, even with a week's notice. We'd like to see him out, it's a possibility. When we sign a contract we honour our agreements."
