Frampton aiming for world title shot

Carl Frampton has relinquished his European and Commonwealth super-bantamweight titles in order to focus on achieving a world title shot.

Frampton made it 17 victories in 17 professional fights when successfully defending his European belt against Jeremy Parodi in October.

The Brit defeated Kiko Martinez in February, who has since gone on to claim the IBF title. Martinez will now defend his crown against Jeffrey Mathebula in December.

"Carl Frampton has represented both the Commonwealth Boxing Council and the European Boxing Union extremely well in his time as champion, of which we are sure both Simon Block of the CBC and Enza Jacaponi of the EBU will attest to," Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan said.

"In relinquishing these titles Carl will afford a fantastic opportunity for four aspiring boxers to contest for these two vacant and highly valuable championships."

WBA champion Scott Quigg is set to defend his title against Diego Oscar Silva on the undercard of Carl Froch's Manchester bout with George Groves.
