Quigg defends title with dominant display

Scott Quigg has defended his WBA super bantamweight title after defeating Tshifhiwa Munyai with a second-round stoppage in Manchester.

Munyai, a late replacement for Nehomar Cermeno who had issues with his visa, survived the opening round after a left hook from Quigg forced him onto the canvas with 20 seconds remaining.

But Quigg continued to dominate his opponent by flooring the South African in the second round with a right hook, before further blows while he was on the ropes forced referee Howard Foster to step in and bring an end to the fight, enabling Quigg to continue his unbeaten career record after 30 fights.

"I wanted to make a statement, I said I wanted to show the best of Scott Quigg and that's what I had to do and no-one's ever done that to Munyai," Quigg told Sky Sports after the fight.

"I've gone in there and demolished him. It was a calculated start - but we nailed it down beforehand and did what we had to."

Earlier, Rendall Munroe called time on his career after losing to Josh Warrington, who defended his Commonwealth featherweight title.

Munroe was forced to retire with a mouth injury after seven rounds, and the former binman was in tears in his post-fight interview when he announced his retirement from the sport.

"I love the sport and the training, but there comes a time when the sharpness isn't there," Munroe said.

"My trainer and manager were telling me it's not there and I always said when they tell me it's time to call it a day, it's time."
