Khan could be denied fight with Floyd again

Amir Khan's hopes of finally fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr took another dent last night as Mayweather and beaten opponent Marcos Maidana eyed another fight against each other. "Just give me the f****** rematch," were Maidana's words and Mayweather seems ready to oblige.

Maidana was left unhappy after a majority decision loss against Mayweather on Saturday, while Khan outclassed Luis Collazo on the undercard in Las Vegas. Khan appeared close to a fight with Mayweather before the 37-year-old opted to fight Maidana instead.

"Enough words, just give me the f****** rematch," Maidana said. "He's a great boxer and a great fighter.

"I definitely think I won. Floyd did not fight like a man like I expected him to do. I had to change the gloves [after a last-minute problem with his original gloves on Friday] and I still gave him a great fight. He did dominate some rounds but the majority, I dominated them.

"Yes, I did go after him. He's a difficult fighter but I won. I would have to give him a rematch because I won the fight [because Mayweather had a rematch clause in his contract]. Yes, I would give him a rematch."

Khan topped a fans' poll set up by Mayweather in February, but opted to fight Maidana instead. The Bolton fighter has made it clear he will not be able to fight again until after September, due to his Ramadan commitments. However, Mayweather appeared to already be considering another fight against Argentine Maidana.

"If the fans want to see it again," Mayweather said, "let's do it again."

"This was a tough, competitive fight. This is what fans want to see. I want to give fans an exciting fight. Normally, I box and move.

"Tonight, I gave fans an exciting fight. He put pressure on me and that's when I decided to fight differently. I stood there and fought him. He's a good fighter, I take nothing away from him."

Mayweather's apparent willingness to fight Maidana for a second time could leave Khan out in the cold once again. However, the 27-year-old is confident he can secure the bout he has long looked for.

"People want to see that fight between me and Floyd," Khan said. "He's fighting guys who are strong, but styles make fights, and I believe my style would cause Floyd a lot of trouble."
