Carl Froch has poured water on suggestions of a potential fight with Bernard Hopkins, telling the Telegraph he is "prepared to wait" for a summer showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez instead.

Froch had to delay a Las Vegas swansong against Chavez, originally pencilled in for March 28, after he suffered a minor elbow injury during preparatory training.

Reports emerged that Froch's promoter Eddie Hearn offered the Brit a June bout with either heavyweight Hopkins or middleweight Gennady Golovkin.

However, Froch told the newspaper: "I'm not really interested. I'm prepared to wait until [I'm fit again] and I'll face Chavez in Las Vegas in June."

WBA and IBF super-middleweight Froch has never fought in Las Vegas but has long desired a big Sin City fight. Following his second successive knockout of George Groves at Wembley last May, Froch hinted his next move would either be a Las Vegas showdown or retirement.

However, his elbow injury appears to have delayed proceedings with Chavez. That bout was initially scheduled for March 28, the same night as Kell Brook's first defence of his IBF welterweight title, but June now looks a likelier date.

Hearn added: "The focus is still on Chavez in June, but I think the Froch-Hopkins fight would be massive. The choice will come down to what Carl wants to do, though."

That appears to be a fight with Chavez in Las Vegas, despite Hearn telling the Telegraph earlier this week a fight against Hopkins or Golovkin, either in America or "an outdoor stadium" in Nottingham, had been offered.
