David Haye has hit back at Audley Harrison's comments, which urged him to "man up", as the war of words intensifies between the two fighters ahead of their expected heavyweight showdown.

Harrison aimed the barb at WBA champion Haye after growing frustrated at his refusal to sign off on the all-British battle, which is pencilled in to take place at the MEN Arena in Manchester on 13 November.

Haye has attracted criticism from all corners in recent months after failing to agree terms on a clash against one of the Klitschko brothers - despite repeatedly insisting that he was desperate to take either, or both, of them on.

"I'm about as bored as every other fight fan about hearing why you won't accept fights," Harrison said. "What are we in this game for?"

Now Haye has taken aim at Harrison as he strives to repair his bruised reputation by returning to the ring for the first time since he knocked out veteran John Ruiz in April.

"Shut the Fcuk [sic] up Fraudley," Haye said on his Twitter account. "If somehow we ever do fight, that career-high pay day you crave won't cover your medical bills! Pipe down..."

If a fight against Harrison does not materialise, Haye is likely to pursue a bout against Poland's Tomasz Adamek, who has a 42-1 record.
