Khan set for Peterson clash in April

Amir Khan has revealed that his next fight will take place in Britain, with Lamont Peterson set to be the opponent.

After Khan attempted to make a breakthrough in America by holding his last two bouts Stateside, he has decided to return to the UK for an April clash.

Early reports suggested that Breidis Prescott, who knocked Khan out after 54 seconds in 2008, would be his challenger - but it seems that the Colombian's offer has been spurned.

Instead, Peterson - who battled to a dramatic draw against Victor Ortiz on the undercard of Khan's clash with Marcos Maidana - is set to challenge for the WBA light-welterweight title. The 26-year-old American was beaten by Timothy Bradley - his only loss as a pro - when he attempted to snatch the WBO strap in December 2009.

"My next fight has to be in Britain," Khan told Ringside. "I get a lot of requests from fans saying 'why don't you come back and fight over here?'.

"My last two fights have been in America and I think it's time now to get a big fight over here. I know every fighter likes to go to Vegas, the Mandalay Bays, the Madison Square Gardens, but you cannot forget your home fans. I want to fight here next.

"I want to be back in the ring in April time, maybe the first or second week. That gives me time to have a break then get in training for eight weeks."
