Nathan Cleverly has thrown down the gauntlet to Carl Froch by revealing that he would be interested in an all-British battle between the pair.

Although they currently fight in different divisions - Cleverly at light-heavyweight, Froch super-middleweight - Froch could make the step up if there is a world title on the line.

Cleverly is the mandatory challenger for Jurgen Braehmer's WBO strap, having compiled a 21-0 record off the back of impressive wins against Karo Murat and Nadjib Mohammedi.

If Froch, the WBC champion at 12 stone, loses his Super Six semi-final against Glen Johnson, there is a possibility that a showdown with Cleverly could materialise as early as this year. Victory over Johnson would leave Froch facing a unification clash with Andre Ward or Arthur Abraham.

"Hopefully I will have the WBO title at some point this year, and if Froch stepped up it would mean he could fight me for the world title," Cleverly told Sky Sports. "It's a fight the public would love, and I wouldn't have a problem with it."
