Kell Brook has hit back at Amir Khan after the WBA light-welterweight champion raised doubts about his ability to compete at the top level.

Although Brook recorded his 24th professional victory by defeating veteran South African Lovemore N'dou on Saturday, he failed to force the stoppage that would have captured the attention of the sport's biggest names.

And so question marks continue to hover over his head, as he has faced an uninspiring list of opponents in his career so far, very few of whom ever threatened to offer him a severe test in the ring.

Now Khan has joined the chorus calling for Brook to be thrown in at the deep end against a top-level competitor. "If they say Brook is good, test him with a genuine top-ten fighter at 147lb [welterweight]," he tweeted.

Brook was quick to respond, and even suggested a potential match up if, as expected, Khan steps up a division next year. "Don't talk rubbish Khan," he tweeted. "Your chin cannot stand up to my power!

"When you step up to 147lb I'll have a belt waiting for you."
