Khan 'agrees' Mayweather showdown
The Brit intends to step up into the welterweight division in the near future, which opens up the possibility of a clash with Mayweather, who fights for the WBC strap against Victor Ortiz in September.
And although Khan has recently hinted at a clash with unbeaten Brit Kell Brook next year, it seems Mayweather is at the forefront of his mind.
"Golden Boy Promotions' Richard Schaefer spoke with Mayweather and his manager, and they really want the fight against me. And he also spoke to me and Freddie and we both agreed to take the fight in 2012," Khan told BBC Sport.
"I think it's going to be a huge fight. I would want to bring that fight to the UK because in England we haven't had a real big fight for a long, long time. Floyd Mayweather against me, I think we could sell out Wembley or wherever.
"If I go in there and beat Floyd Mayweather, I think I would be known as one of the greatest fighters in history to come out of England. I really think the fight will happen in the next 12 months."
Khan defends his WBA light-welterweight strap against Zab Judah, the IBF king, on July 23.
