Mark Webber said fourth place on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix was not unexpected after feeling slow during qualifying.

Sebastian Vettel took pole position by a comfortable margin in the wet conditions at Interlagos, with Webber ending the session 1.1s slower than his team-mate. Webber said the weather made it tough to get a lap right and isn't too disheartened to start his final grand prix from fourth.

"We are where we deserved to be I think, as I didn't feel that quick in qualifying," Webber said. "The car felt slow and I was struggling for grip. It was tricky for all of us, but we're on the second row and we can still do something from there. It's tricky to get it all together in those conditions, I wasn't too comfortable in Q1 and Q2 on the intermediate tyres, but that's the way it goes."

Webber explained that he had failed to get his second set of intermediate tyres working properly at the start of his final run.

"I knew I was in the s*** on the first lap. I tried to get them in on the second lap and then the third lap and I thought I would be worse off to be honest."

With conditions potentially going to be different in the race, Webber said the approach would be similar to the first grand prix as the lack of dry running means true competitiveness is unknown.

"You can't change; it's like treating it like the first race of the year. It is what it is. I'll come in, I'll do my normal prep and I'm not going to change much now. We'll do what we can tomorrow, if it's like this (wet) obviously it's sensational for the neutral at home but on the pit wall and in the car it's a very, very, super-testing venue. As we saw today - Sergio [Perez] dropped it obviously - so it's easy to have some problems on this track."
