'Good fight' a sweet farewell for Webber
Mark Webber said he was pleased to be able to mark his final race fighting at the front as he finished second in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel took a ninth consecutive victory at Interlagos but Webber signed off with a strong second place to ensure it was a Red Bull one-two in the season finale. Webber dropped to fifth place at the start but fought back past Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Fernando Alonso to finish second and said it was the perfect way to bow out.
"It was a very good finish to my career, a good fight with all of the guys that I've enjoyed fighting with for most of my career," Webber said. "Seb, Fernando, Lewis, Nico; all the guys which have been in the window for the last five or six years. So I want to thank the team, I enjoyed the last few laps, it was a very nice way for me to finish.
"I want to thank everyone in Australia as I wouldn't be here where I am without the support I had in the early days. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable career, a great journey, one which I'm proud of and there's been so many people who have played a special role in my career. They know who they all are, so thank you all very much.
"I'll enjoy watching Formula One with these guys next year but I'm off to Porsche and looking forward to it."
Webber also admitted he would have trouble leaving Formula One behind next season.
"That won't be easy, of course. I've spoken to different sports men and women around the world. It's six to 12 months off the back of your top end of your career; the toughest echelon that you've been in for so long and testing yourself against the best people on the toughest tracks is not easy to step off of. I accept that.
That's what I'm going to have to go with next year at times but you have to let go at a certain time. I'm happy to have those stronger feelings maybe if they're a little bit harder than me having the feelings of dealing with me not performing. That's important."
