Sebastian Vettel was thrilled to break his Canadian Grand Prix duck on Sunday after a dominant display in Montreal.

Vettel's victory never looked in doubt as he quickly built up a healthy lead over the cars behind and then maintained the gap throughout the race. It was the first time Red Bull has won in Canada, leaving Austin as the only circuit on the calendar the world champions have not tasted victory at.

"We've had good races here before but it didn't come together for the win," he said. "Two years ago I was very close and I lost it in the last lap. It was a great feeling today and I had a great car today from the team. We were able to pull away from the rest of the field and I was really able to enjoy every lap. It was difficult at stages with the traffic but overall it was great."

Vettel said he struggled on the super-soft tyre at the start of the race but never felt under threat.

"I had a very good start that was important and we were able to really go with the car," he said. "Obviously on the super-soft we saw the tyres were falling apart but I think we were as good as everybody else so I was able to build the gap and then keep that gap. At some stages we had a full pit stop in hand and it was easier then to control the gap. But it was a great race with great pit stops by the team. It was a very important race for us to win and finally we've got it off the list so I'm very proud of that."
