Paul di Resta said he got his strategy "spot on" at the Canadian Grand Prix after battling from 17th to seventh on race day.

The Force India driver started on the medium compound tyres and was able to make them last 56 laps on a one-stop strategy. The team let him make the call on when he wanted to pit and di Resta said he felt he got the decision just right.

"I think we got it absolutely spot on," he said. "Every lap up until then was quicker and that last lap I just felt they were going away. Whether there was a chance to fight [Jean-Eric] Vergne [I don't know], but we just took the long game and made sure we scored the points. After the weekend we've had, to get away with seventh after starting 17th is an extremely good job."

He said Force India were going into the unknown ahead of the race as he did not complete a long run during Friday practice.

"We had a very quick car on Friday but I missed out on the long-run data because I missed out on the high-fuel run with an electrical failure," he added. "Yesterday was another disaster but we recovered very well. To go into a race without any high-fuel runs ... we didn't know where anything was and we've pulled something way out of the basket there. Hopefully Silverstone we'll have a trouble-free weekend and it will be nice to have all three days sealed and come out with a result like that in front of a lot of British fans."
