Canadian Grand Prix organisers have resurfaced parts of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve that broke up at the last Formula One race there in 2008.

The track literally crumbled away under the stresses of 20 plus F1 cars lapping the circuit in 2007 and 2008. At the time the track was patched up with concrete between sessions but it still drew criticism from the drivers.

The problem was partly blamed on Montreal's harsh winters, which see the circuit covered in snow and ice for several months, but for this year the FIA confirmed a more permanent solution had been found. "The track has been resurfaced in the areas affected by degradation during the 2008 event," it said in a preview.

However, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg is not completely convinced.

"We must be cautious, because there have been improvements every year and every year was a disaster," he said, before adding: "But I'm still confident, as I have spoken with FIA officials. The FIA has said it has paid close attention, so it should be fine."

Tarmac run off areas have also been added at turns six and eight.
