Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips is considering switching codes, according to rugby league outfit Crusaders.

The 28-year-old scrum-half is to leave the Ospreys this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to France, with Bayonne said to be leading the race for his signature. However, the Crusaders have now claimed that Phillips is seriously entertaining the idea of moving to the Super League.

"We have put the feelers out to his representative and he is considering an offer from us," a club spokesman told the Daily Post. "He's big box office and he's a fantastic player and he'd be well-suited to rugby league."

Former Wales captain Gareth Thomas has already proven a big hit at the Crusaders since switching to the 13-man code last year and they club believes that Phillips also has the all-round ability to successfully cross over.

"We feel that more players should be encouraged to follow in his [Thomas'] footsteps," a Crusaders spokesman told BBC Sport. "We are looking to build something special up here in north Wales both as a successful team on the field and to create a strong business model and a club that the fans can be proud of."
