Broad blasts media hype during KP saga

Stuart Broad has hit back at the press for blowing elements of the Kevin Pietersen saga out of proportion in the wake of the batsman's recall to the England team.

Pietersen was added to the England squad for the upcoming tour of India on Thursday after reintegration talks with members of the ECB and senior team-mates following a tumultuous summer which saw him dropped and left out of England's failed World Twenty20 campaign.

But while Pietersen issued apologies to former captain Andrew Strauss for sending derogatory texts to South African players during their tour of England in the summer, Broad believes reports into the scale of the fallout between the 32-year-old and the England dressing room were over-hyped in the media.

Pietersen was reportedly outraged that fellow team-mates were following a spoof Twitter account in his name, but Broad does not remember the episode being as big a deal as it was made out to be in the media.

"Looking back, it wasn't an issue in the changing room. It was never mentioned, KP never mentioned it, it was not an issue at the time," Broad told Sky Sports News.

"I think that was something in the media that was built up to be something that it wasn't.

"The issues came from scheduling problems and battles with the ECB, and it just got out of hand and obviously exploded in the media.

"Everyone's glad to draw a line under that whole scenario and I'm sure once we start winning cricket games again people will just be talking about the cricket."
