Kevin Pietersen has been added to England's tour of India after successful reintegration talks with the ECB.

The decision was taken after Pietersen met with England team director Andy Flower, captain Alastair Cook and other senior members of the England team management earlier this week.

Pietersen has not played for England since the second Test of the series against South Africa. After it emerged that he had exchanged "provocative" messages with members of the South Africa touring party, he was omitted from the side for the third Test and then left out of the squad that tried in vain to defend the World Twenty20.

His return boosts an England squad that could have been forced to field as many as three inexperienced specialist batsmen during the India tour.

"We were keen that Kevin should hold a series of face-to-face meetings with team management and senior players before the Test squad departs for the UAE and India next week," Hugh Morris, England team director, said.

"The meetings were constructive and cordial and all outstanding issues have been resolved. All the England players and management are now keen to draw a line under this matter and fully focus on the cricketing challenge that lies ahead in India."
