Bradley Wiggins has targeted a return to action at the Vuelta a Espana after breaking his collarbone last week.

The Team Sky rider crashed out of the Tour de France after being caught up in a collision on Friday, and had surgery on Monday.

Wiggins is keen to get back in the saddle as soon as possible, and is desperate to be back to full strength in time for the World Championships in Copenhagen later this year.

Wiggins has confirmed that he intends to make his debut at the Vuelta, which begins in Benidorm on August 20. He will, however, miss the Tour of Britain and the British Time Trial Championships.

"All focus on Worlds TT now as the big one for the end of the season with most likely prep being the Vuelta which will be a first for me," Wiggins posted on his Twitter feed. "Only downside being will miss National Time Trial and Tour of Britain but something has to give as hadn't planned on crashing out of Tour de France."
