Wiggins: Armstrong won't overshadow my year

Bradley Wiggins says the latest doping scandal in cycling should not detract from his successes this year.

Wiggins made history as he became the first Briton to win the Tour de France before crowning a golden summer as he won the Olympic time trial event at London 2012.

However, the revelations that seven-time yellow jersey winner Lance Armstrong spearheaded "the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme" in the sport's history have dealt another blow to the reputation of cycling.

But Wiggins, who attended the inaugural Yellow Ball in London on Tuesday evening, a fundraising event for his Bradley Wiggins Foundation, insists there is still plenty to celebrate.

"Ultimately there are still some fantastic things going on in this sport and our success this year as a cycling team is one of them," Wiggins told Sky Sports News.

"That's something to be celebrated, regardless of what certain people think. This one ain't built on sand; it's not going to crumble in ten years' time. It's brilliant, let's celebrate it and raise money for the next generation."
