Profile

Kevin Sinfield is a one-club man who in August 2009 became only the second player to pass 1000 goals for Leeds Rhinos.

Sinfield made his Rhinos debut aged 16 in 1997, having shown immense promise as a junior, but it took him a couple of years to establish himself as the club's No. 1 stand-off. He was handed the captaincy in 2003 and led the club to Grand Final glory that year. One of the greatest goal-kickers in the game, he finished Super League's top points scorer in 2004.

Sinfield became the first Leeds captain to lift the World Club Challenge when the Rhinos beat the Bulldogs in 2005, the first of two wins in the competition.

He has led the Rhinos to a hat-trick of Grand Final wins (2007, 2008 and 2009) and holds the record for scoring in 52 consecutive Super League games.

Career high: Leading the Rhinos to a third straight Grand Final win.

Career low: Was on the cusp of grabbing the famed number 13 jersey for Great Britain when he was struck down with food poisoning on the eve of the Test with New Zealand.

Quote: Commenting on a career-changing moment, Sinfield said: "The 2003 Challenge Cup final in Cardiff. It was my first year as skipper and I was very much learning my trade. I took a lot of criticism for a decision I made towards the end of the game but it is one that, even in retrospect, I would not change. I felt very isolated and alone after that game.

"However, facing that adversity brought the best out of me and I wanted to make sure that the trophy cabinet was full at this club in the coming years. Sometimes you need the bad times to appreciate the good ones and, after a salutary experience like that, you know exactly what you want out of your career. It was a difficult time for me and it took me a while to get over it, however, it has helped me in later years.

"Of course, there are players at other clubs who have suffered adversity too, but I think the fact that we have now tasted success means that we want to keep that feeling. You never want to experience such disappointment again, everyone wants to be a winner."

Trivia: Alongside other star names in rugby league, Sinfield stripped for the 2010 Naked Calendar in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation.
