Although he failed to win a single title, 2010 was undoubtedly Tomas Berdych's best year, as he broke into the world's top ten for the first time after a stunning summer run of results.
Berdych has shown promise since he claimed his first Masters title in Paris in November 2005, but the Czech has failed to fulfil his potential since breaking into the top ten a year later. A powerful server with a huge forehand, Berdych had recorded victories over both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal by 2005.
Despite favouring the hard courts, it was on the clay and grass that Berdych sealed his passage into the top ten for the first time.
Wins over Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray capped a stunning month as he reached his first grand slam semi-final at the French Open, which was swifltly overshadowed by his giantkilling run to reach the final at Wimbledon.

In the fourth rubber of the Davis Cup quarter-final between Russia and Czech Republic in 2008, Berdych had to win to keep his side in the tie, but in the fifth set twisted his ankle and was forced to retire.
"I think this is the biggest advantage of these two guys. When they go on the court, the opponents are down one set because they are fearful of them. They think that they are gods." - Berdych insists he is not afraid of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal after beating Nadal at the 2006 Rogers Cup
