Ian Poulter admitted Friday's four-under-par 68 was one of his "best rounds of golf" after he took a step closer to his "dream" of winning the Masters.

Poulter carded his second consecutive 68 to share the top of the leaderboard with fellow Brit Lee Westwood, two shots ahead of a group of five players on six-under, including Tiger Woods. Things could have been even better for Poulter too after he lipped out on the final hole of his second round to finish on a bogey.

Prior to that solitary slip, Poulter hit five birdies including too exceptional putts from range, and he will take a huge dose of confidence into the third round, where he plays alongside Westwood.

"He took a few dollars off me the other day, so I would like to get some back," quipped Poulter, referring to a practice round played earlier in the week.

"I struck the ball much better today. With the pins where they were today, I'm just happy that I gave myself so many chances. That was definitely one of the best rounds of golf I have had in a while.

"To play in the Masters was in my dreams and to be near the top of the leaderboard was in my dreams. Let's hope I can stay there until Sunday afternoon."

Westwood is treading in unknown territory after breaking a spell of 48 Majors without leading a single round, but he insists it is time to end England's wait for a Major title.

"We're not in the top 10 of the world rankings by mistake," he said of himself and Poulter. "We should be competing in the major events."
