Pardew disrespect bugs Jagielka

Phil Jagielka has criticised Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for being "disrespectful" to Everton ahead of their Premier League meeting next week.

Pardew claimed his team were in a different league to David Moyes' side at the tail end of last season.

Newcastle finished the campaign fifth, two places and nine points ahead of Everton, although they were beaten 3-1 at Goodison Park on the season's final day.

The two sides meet again on Merseyside on Monday night, and centre-back Jagielka feels Everton have a point to prove.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I wouldn't say there was a bit of an edge to the game, but I think it's a little bit disrespectful for someone to say something like that after one good season.

"Fair play, Newcastle had a fantastic season and massively overachieved, but they aren't the first team to overachieve for a season.

"In the Premier League it's all about consistency, and if you look at how we have performed over the years, then it's a little bit disrespectful to come out and say something like that."
