Novak Djokovic should be fit for the French Open after the Serb did not suffer any serious damage to his ankle.

The world No. 1 twisted his ankle in the first set when playing in the Davis Cup for Serbia last weekend against USA, battling through the pain to send his country into the semi-finals of the competition. On Monday, the 25-year-old admitted if he was not playing for his nation he would not have carried on.

Djokovic was in tears after the singles' rubber victory over Sam Querrey when speaking about the problem, and was concerned about the severity of the injury, possibly ruling him out of next week's Monte-Carlo Masters and potentially derailing his attempts to win a maiden French Open in May.

However, a statement from the Australian Open champion's website confirmed Djokovic had not encountered any long-term damage, saying: "The world's top player has undergone an MRI examination this morning which revealed no structural damage to the joint capsule and ligaments.

"A joint structures strain requires therapy and strict rest in the following days. Depending on the recovery, a decision will be made on Nole's participation at the upcoming tournament in Monte Carlo."
