Liverpool star Luis Suarez admits he "completely lost it" before biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, blaming the incident on his anger after giving away a penalty earlier in the match.

Suarez was subsequently banned for 10 games following the incident, which was the latest in a long line of on-field indiscretions.

The Liverpool striker concedes he let himself and his club down and, with six matches of his suspension still remaining, issued an apology.

He said: "I know I made a mistake in the incident with Ivanovic - it was me, my fault, and he didn't do anything to me.

"I was just angry as I had given away a penalty for handball a few minutes earlier. I saw red and completely lost it.

"I can't really explain it and I am so sorry - but the reaction was amazing."

On national team duty with Uruguay currently, Suarez has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks. The 26-year-old remained tight-lipped over the potential move, but did state his desire to play alongside Real star Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I'd like to play with Cristiano Ronaldo," said Suarez. "You never know - but it's complicated."
