Wheels in motion for July return for Khan
Amir Khan has revealed he plans to fight again in July, as part of a pencilled-in schedule that would see the Briton enter the ring on two more occasions before the end of the year.
Khan destroyed Paulie Malignaggi last weekend, raising awareness of his talent in the US, and he is now expected to face either Michael Katsidis or Marcos Maidana. Khan's dad has already spoken of a potential bout with Katsidis, revealing it could form part of a big double-header involving Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz.
The WBA light-welterweight has confirmed that timeline, predicting a July return to the spotlight, and he has already received clearance from his coaches. The only thing that needs confirming is the next opponent.
"I'm looking at the end of July, because it's around Ramadan so I want to go away and do my fasts this year," stated Khan.
"I want to fight before that so that I can have a long break and then maybe fight again around November or December.
"In the fight (against Malignaggi) I didn't take much punishment, and being young I think I can afford to jump into another fight. I spoke to Freddie [Roach] and he's happy to do that.
"I'd like to have it in the UK but if not I'd like to go back to the States again. Some fighters don't like to fight away from home but I like to fight anywhere."
