Rooney ban stands after appeal fails

Wayne Rooney has failed in his appeal to have his two-match ban rescinded.
The Manchester United striker was slapped with the sanction for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language in United's 4-2 win over West Ham on Saturday.
Rooney was punished for swearing into a television camera while celebrating his hat-trick in United's 4-2 victory at Upton Park. While Rooney accepted the charge, he contested the punishment, claiming that the automatic penalty of two games was excessive.
However, Rooney will miss United's home clash against Fulham on Saturday after his appeal was turned down. He will also be unavailable for the FA Cup semi-final against arch-rivals Manchester City.
"The Commission did not accept the claim and Rooney will begin the standard two-match suspension with immediate effect," said a statement on the FA website.
Rooney ensured he was in the headlines for all the right reasons on Thursday morning after scoring the only goal of the game in United's 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Rooney admitted he was "gutted" by the decision, saying his suspension "doesn't seem right".
